From what I've read you techincally could, but they are best in their own tank. People don't seem to have a lot of trouble with them eating other fish, but I think they would be happier on their own.

You could try it though. I wasn't sure what Triops were so I They are so neat! Might your fish eat them while their small? Will the exoskeleton cause your fish a digestive problem should they eat them? Here's the link I found so interesting Carol. Click to expand I had some years ago, they are hardy little predators.

Both species eat relatively the same things -- vegetation, commercial fish food, and other small animals, like bloodworms and krill. Triops are bottom feeders, they're always hungry, and they're not picky. They do a great job of cleaning up food particles that make it to the bottom of the tank. They'll also chomp their way through any live aquatic plants. If you intend for your aquatic flora to grow and flourish, triops are not a good choice for you.

They'll start at the roots and keep nibbling until the whole plant is gone. Remember, they're always hungry! If you want to breed goldfish or triops, it's best to separate the eggs and babies from the grown-ups, who look at their kids the same way they do their lunch. To a comet or fantail, triops offspring look like tasty snacks. Full-grown triops will also eat the smaller ones, as well as any fry or goldfish eggs they come across on the aquarium floor.

Answer: I would not recommend putting Triops with fish. The water conditions in a fish tank may not be suitable for the Triops. Some fish will eat them almost immediately! Although not generally natural cohabitants of triops, they do well together and the snails can help to control algae in the container. I kept triops with cherry shrimp for some time months without any problems, but the triops had plenty to eat.

Because Triops need warm water to hatch and thrive, set a lamp over the top of the tank to maintain a mild water temperature. The first thing to know about the eating habits of Triops is that they are always hungry! In nature Triops feed off fragments of plants, tiny insects and other creatures that grow in their temporary pond, there has been a lot of research done in North America and China on the possible use of Triops to destroy Mosquitos which spread a lot of disease.

Mosquitos lay their eggs in stagnate pools of water, just the right type of pools in which Triops grow in fact. So it was natural for scientists to think that they could use Triops to consume Mosquitos whilst they were in their larvae state and so limit the spread of Mosquitos across the country. It was thought the Triops would eat the Mosquito larvae before the Mosquito could turn into its adult flying form.

But they forgot that Triops are virtually blind and take the lazy way out and often just eat whatever they just happen to bump across whilst they are crawling on the bottom of the pool and the Mosquito larvae tend to live at the surface of the water! Only a few Triops in a population seem to actually take to active swimming, so whilst the rest of the Triops are eating plant and insects that happen to be lying on the bottom of the pool, the Mosquito larvae are for the most part simply ignored and can continue to grow virtually undisturbed.

As I said earlier, Triops love to eat soft vegetable matter. Therefore one problem that several nations have noticed with Triops is that they love eating young plant roots.

They will all too often dig away at the delicate roots of the Rice plant for example and so prevent the plant from growing fully. As you can imagine Rice is a major crop in many nations and so they are not welcome in Paddy fields across the World. Take a plain ordinary carrot and shave the outside skin off. Then shave a few fragments off of the freshly exposed underskin.

But the Triops can eat it much faster if you do.
