They have to ensure that the laws mandated by the federal government are implemented in the state. The state governments also have the power to draft their own laws which will be implemented within the state boundaries. A state is usually bigger in area than a city, and it often incorporates various cities, counties, regions, villages, towns, etc.

While the terms town and cities are often used interchangeably to refer to the same place, the two are actually different types of urban centers. However, their definitions and official designations vary by country or regions within the same country.

There can be many different political viewpoints among the citizens of any given county, however they are tied together in voting for the same people.
